The Apple iPhone is a widescreen iPod that features touch screen controls that allow you to enjoy all your content, including audiobooks, music, TV shows, and movies. Using the phone function of the Apple iPhone, you can make calls by simply pointing your finger at a name or number in your address book, a favorites list, or a call log. The Apple iPhone was officially announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during his keynote speech at the Macworld Expo in early 2007.

The iPhone is Apple’s first move into the mobile phone industry, boasting vast multimedia features including a camera, media player and an array of internet services – the iPhone is highly anticipated.

With a scheduled US release date of June 2007 (other regions not yet confirmed), the phone will be available in two models. The first being a 4 GB model retailing at US$499 and its big brother the 8 GB model retailing at US$599.

To bring you up to speed on the Apple iPhone here’s a guide to the hardware, software and the features this new Apple product has to offer.

The Full Technical Specification:

Screen size: 3.5 inches
Screen resolution: 320 by 480 at 160 ppi
Input method: Multi-touch
Operating system: OS X
Storage: 4GB or 8GB
GSM: Quad-band (MHz: 850, 900, 1800, 1900)
Wireless data: Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + EDGE + Bluetooth 2.0
Camera: 2.0 megapixels
Battery: Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing, Up to 16 hours Audio playback
Dimensions: 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches
Weight: 4.8 ounces / 135 grams

Functionality:

The iPhone boasts a whopping 3.5-inch touch screen display designed specifically for use with your bare hands (the touch screen relies on bare skin so the need for a stylus is simply not there). To input text the iPhone uses a virtual keyboard allowing the user to quickly and easily input their desired text. As you would expect the virtual keyboard has all the functions you would expect, auto spell check, predictive text, dictionary etc.

A key feature of the iPhone’s navigation and functionality is the scroll feature. Similar to the iPod scroll wheel the movement allows you to quickly and easily move through the menu’s, the wheel can be “spun” by sliding a finger over the display – the faster the ‘spin’ the quicker the menu or item is navigated through.

Features:

As you would expect the iPhone has all the usual features you’d expect from any standard Cell phone including conferencing, call holding, call merging, caller ID, email and all the rest.

The iPhone also includes a 2 Mega Pixel built-in camera that will allow you to record and capture video and still images and using the provided software transfer these to your PC or Mac.

The most appealing feature of the iPhone is it’s incorporation of its big brother the iPod MP3 player. Similar to the 5th generation of iPods the iPhone can handle video playback as well as a music library.

Online:

The iPhone also has online capabilities due to its built-in WiFi technology. With the assistance of a wireless network the iPhone can display full web pages using the Safari browser rather than simplified WAP style pages. As well as browsing the internet, the iPhone is capable of sending and receiving email thanks to its HTML email application.

Operating System:

According to Apple an optimized (slimmed down) version of the popular Mac OS X Operating system will work fine on the iPhone although they haven’t as of yet gone into any specifics on this, nor has the process been officially explained.

Apple has commented in the past that OS updates for the iPhone will be very smooth and work in a similar way to the iPod and Mac OS X updates. Like the OS X Dashboard Apple revealed the iPhone will support various Widgets for example, stocks and shares and weather modules.

Miscellaneous Features:

As you would expect the iPhone features a built-in non-replaceable battery unit just like the iPod and is capable of providing up to 5 hours of video playback, voice calls or web browsing. Music playback is around the 16 hours mark.

At the end of the day, the iPhone is going to be useful to those who will use its features. With the market for Blackberries constantly on the rise and the market for iPods continually growing, I think the product that Apple are offering will be picked up and valued by a wide range of people. It converges together the practical and the fashionable, which is a very difficult thing to do. It might be a big investment, but if you are going to use it the iPhone is excellent value and a sound investment that you will find yourself turning to throughout the day for entertainment, information and more besides.

With Apple’s major success with their iPod, the most popular form of MP3 player, they were sure to expand and come out with their own version of a cell phone. Apple has dominated the industry of MP3 players and has managed to sell millions of iPods all over the world, along with millions of songs through their own online music store.

The cell phone industry has evolved and so has the technology. Nearly every single cell phone comes equipped with a screen that plays video, and a camera. Apple’s newer versions of the iPod have screen that have the ability to play videos. Now Apple has taken their popular and advanced technologies to the next level with the iPhone, combining the functions of a cell phone, Internet communication device, as well as a “wide screen” iPod with easy to use touch controls.

Apple made their iPhone exclusive to AT&T and Cingular, which means these phone companies are the only two who can offer you service for your iPhone. The Apple iPhone is supposed to be released sometime in June. It will be interesting to see the other companies and manufacturers scramble to make their own version of the iPhone.

The Apple iPhone will run on the most recent MAC operating system for its Internet and video functions. It also comes equipped with a 2 megapixel camera and has the ability to run Google maps, conference calling, text, and multimedia messaging. These are all must have functions for anyone on the go these days, especially the younger generation. The iPhone will also have Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, as well as Email software and a browser.

The new iPhone will have a combination of the latest, most popular technologies. In fact it doesn’t have a keypad at all, except for a “home” button. The controls are operated on a 3.5 inch square touch screen. Many pre-release reviews of the iPhone are positive and say that the photo and video quality is amazing. There is basically one giant touch screen that you use to control the phone, the picture component, and the videos. You will never have to use a stylus again! When you want to send a text message to someone you can use the onscreen keyboard which is also controlled by touch.

Apple will be offering a 4GB version of the iPhone for the price of $499 with a two year contract. If you want to double your space then you can go with the 8GB version of the iPhone for the low price of $599, only $100 more than the 4GB. To some these may seem like expensive phones, but when you really think about it iPod’s run you about $300. Then you add on the costs of a cell phone. Apple can charge this because there are going to be many dedicated Apple fans that will have no problem spending that much money on an Apple iPhone.

Apple iPhone is no longer a mystical rumor; it exists, and it’s the rage for all those techie consumers out there. The Apple iPhone is expected to become available from Apple and Cingular in June ’07 for $499 for the 4GB and $599 for the 8GB version. It’s a fully multi-tasking communications device that allows the user to read a web page while downloading email in the background over Wi-Fi or EDGE. Other appealing features are its slim profile and lack of keys (only three hard keys), that make this phone the ultimate fashion accessory.

The cost of the iPhone is remarkably high, but it is to be expected with any market entrance. Overtime prices will lower much the same way that the Motorola RAZR did. As aforementioned, an 8-gigabyte model will cost $599 and a 4-gigabyte model $499. Regardless of the high price, the image of this product is so high that it will be widely accepted by consumers willing to pay the price.

Features for Apple’s iPhone include HTML email (IMAP, POP3), with Safari as the browser, 2 separated batteries, flash memory, slide out keyboard, and touch screen on the outside. Utilizing a familiar graphic interface, and other user centric features different from most mobile phones the launch of the iPhone today is reminiscent of January 1984 when Apple first introduced their Macintosh personal computer. There is no doubt that Apple will follow their success with the iPod by delivering a compelling, relevant, and user friendly product.

Ultimately, the Apple iPhone is a combination of three different products: a cell phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls and an Internet communications device. The iPhone will revolutionize the cell phone industry posing threats to others who have been in the industry for ages. The good news for consumers is that Apple has raised the bar which promises better products from all manufacturers.

Apple iPhone Name Causing A Pre Release Buzz

Those who have seen the new iPhone have been raving about the new iPhone that is set to be released in June of 2007. When you get an iPhone it is the same as getting a video iPod, mobile phone with text messaging, as well as Internet communications with desktop capabilities. The designers at Apple thought of everything when they designed the iPhone, except the fact that the name was taken already.

That’s right, there was a dispute over who owns the iPhone trademark between Apple and Cisco. Cisco is suing Apple will a claim that they own the trademark to the iPhone name. Back in 2000 Cisco claims that they registered the name iPhone with the US Patent and Trademark office for their line of Internet capable phones. This two parties finally settled in time for Apple to use the name for their new phone.

Not only the name of the iPhone has people talking, but the new features and combination of services seem to make everyone happy and reviews positive. The two new features that are truly unique on the iPhone is the fact that it operates on the MAC OS X operating system. With this type of operating system you are able to seamlessly sync data from a MAC or PC.

Another amazing new feature on the iPhone is the touch screen. Apple decided to get rid of the key pad all together, leaving more space for the screen, which is 3.5-inches. Instead of a key pad the iPhone has a virtual key pad or key board which will appear depending on the function you are using. If you are making a telephone call then you will see a virtual key pad come up, or you can select from your contacts. If you are surfing online, writing and Email, sending a text, or typing out a document then you will see a virtual key board. This touch screen technology is designed to be more user-friendly than standard key pads and tiny key boards.

If you are into text messaging the people you know then you would love to take advantage of the iPhones SMS application. This is an application which has a predictive QWERTY soft keyboard which can correct and prevent mistakes while typing. This is more efficient than most smartphone keyboards.

The phone itself only weighs 4.8 ounces and is 11.6 mm thick, super small and can fit anywhere. The 2-megapixel digital camera can come in handy when you are in an emergency situation such as a crime scene or car crash. Other people use their digital camera to document important things such as where they parked in the airport parking garage, so they won’t be lost after a two week vacation.

You will be able to purchase an iPhone after its 2007 summer release exclusively through AT&T Wireless. You will have to sign a two year service contract with the purchase as well. It is still unconfirmed on whether a data plan will be required. There will be two different models that are released, the 4GB and 8GB. The 4GB version will run you $499, while the 8GB costs only $100 more at $599.
